European Day of Languages

Did you know there are between 6,000 and 7,000 languages spoken around the world?

September 26th is the European Day of Languages, which celebrates and promotes learning languages.

The ten most important languages for the UK, according to the British Council are:

  • Spanish
  • Arabic
  • French
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • German
  • Portuguese
  • Italian
  • Russian
  • Turkish
  • Japanese

You can study languages at school, college, university, adult education classes or online.  This can help you get a job and keep your career options open.
