I would like to go to university – how can I find out more?

A sensible first step would be to check out the range of courses available in the UK. A good starting point is the UCAS web site. You can find any university in the UK using their map or a list. UCAS also have a course search. From the UCAS site you can access the on line prospectus for the university and find out a bit more about what is offered.

You could start your search in several ways -

  • Do you have a career in mind? If so you need to check out the entry qualifications. Some jobs will require you to have a degree in a specific subject. Other career areas are open to graduates of any discipline. You can use our Job Information section to start your job research.
  • Do you want to study a specific subject? Use the UCAS course search to find out where the subject is available.

How can I find out which is the best university to study at?

Think about what you are looking for in a place to study and live.
Different places suit different people, so it depends on what you are looking for.  You may be interested in whether a university or college is in a big city or rural location. Are you looking for good sporting facilities or a big hall of residence where you can make new friends?

For information and advice check the Guardians online university guide.
