Young people from across Powys are invited to the annual careers festival where they will be able to:
- Interact with over 70 employers from a range of different sectors
- Take part in interactive workshops and demonstrations including ‘Have a Go’ sessions
- Talk to current apprentices
- Get information from colleges, universities and training providers about courses.
Around 3,000 pupils from across Powys will be invited to the Choose Your Future Powys Careers Festival on 6th March 2019 at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells.
The interactive careers and skills festival is organised by the Positive Pathways Powys partnership – a multi-agency group made up of Powys County Council, Careers Wales, Secondary schools in the county, the NPTC Group of Colleges, Cambrian Training and the Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations. The partnership aims to highlight to young people the opportunities available to them when they leave school or college.
Exhibitors from a wide range of sectors will be present on the day representing universities, colleges, private and public sector employers and the voluntary sector, giving young people the opportunity to hear from industry experts first hand.
The Bloodhound Supersonic car will be there.
Speakers this year are Jason Pritchard from Toyota in Builth Wells. Jason left school after his GCSE's. and went into the family business.
He started in the business as a motor technician and went to the Toyota Academy. At the same time he was competing in rallying and maintaining rally cars.
Because of his trade as a motor technician and his success in motorsport he has been lucky enough to attend events such as the East African Safari rally and see parts of the World he wouldn't have ever had the chance to had he not been involved in motorsport.
Also speaking will be Ben Sheppard, Radio Presenter. Ben is from Brecon and attended Gwernyfed High School where he was head boy.
After 6th form, he went to university from there it was all about work experience, he presented on a student radio station, Fly FM and won a student radio award. Following that and a lot of work experience he landed his first job on Capital FM in South Wales.
Ben will be demonstrating his DJ skills at the event.
Oil for Wales are attending and are bringing two WRU players.
