Choose Your Future 'Apprenticeships Work'

Careers Wales’ Choose Your Future ‘Apprenticeships Work’ careers fair took place at Cardiff City Football Stadium during National Apprenticeship Week this March.

1,200 pupils and parents from Secondary Schools and FE Colleges in Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan got the chance to meet some of Wales’ largest employers and work based learning providers.

On the day:

  • 71 exhibitors interacted with young people and their parents to explain the benefits of following a vocational career path. Many exhibitors had live Apprenticeships for this year’s school leavers to apply for.
  • Four 10 minute ‘Introduction to Apprenticeship’ sessions gave pupils information on Apprenticeships, a guide to activities taking place and a motivational film from a young person who gained an Apprenticeship at HMRC from attending the event a previous year.
  • Six workshops took place through the event on a range of sectors that were very popular with schools. Hands-on displays and demonstrations also included technical tours of three Porsches, virtual paint spraying, Scalextric races, Have a Go equipment, tours of a variety of employer’s service vehicles and a climbing wall.

Careers Wales staff were on hand throughout the day; directing people to and from sessions, delivering sessions, managing workshops, giving short careers advice interviews and taking registers and feedback.
