- Discuss your ideas with your careers adviser and tutors.
- Draw up a list of all the universities and courses that interest you and send for your own copies of prospectuses.
- Attend Higher Education events and open days.
- Start work on drafting your personal statement.
- If you're thinking about it, research gap year options.
- Research sponsorship options.
Summer vacation
- Researching courses – your local Careers Centre or Shop has a range of resources that you can use.
Autumn Term 2008
- Students on Access courses should begin to research courses during this term.
- Discuss final choices with careers adviser/tutor.
- Check any course queries with institutions.
- Get a copy of the UCAS Directory – book or CD (from your school or college).
- Complete UCAS form early – submit before 15 January 2009.
- Applications for Oxbridge and medicine, dentistry and veterinary science must be submitted by 15 October 2008.
- Apply for sponsorship if needed.
- Prepare for interviews – make a list of questions and prepare your answers. Also make a list of questions you would like to ask about the course and institution.
Spring Term 2009
- Complete UCAS form if you are using Route B for Art and Design – submit by 24 March 2009.
- Seek advice from your Careers Adviser/tutors on which offers to hold.
- Contact your Local Education Authority about your eligibility for the Assembly Learning Grant and Student Loan.
- By the end of March you should have had replies from all institutions (Route A).
- If you have not received any offers use your UCAS Extra Passport to seek a place until the end of June.
Summer Term 2009
- Accept your firm choice and insurance offer to UCAS by the date advised.
- Work hard to get good exam results.
- AVCE and National Diploma results should be published in June/July.
August 2009
- AS/A Level results – you should plan to be at home at this time.
- If you are not accepted by either your Firm or Insurance Offer seek advice from your careers adviser before entering Clearing.
FACT: You can speak to a careers advisers throughout the summer. They can assist students with Clearing or other options such as taking a gap year, employment or training.
