What's on offer?
Skill Build
NVQ 1
Foundation Modern Apprenticeships
Modern Apprenticeships

Skill Build

  • Mainly open to those under 18
  • Short courses to try out a range of work
  • Lasts at least 13 weeks
  • Training may lead to NVQ Level 1
  • Can help with key skills and job search skills
  • Training allowance - at least £50 per week
  • Can lead to a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship, Modern Apprenticeship or other employment

NVQ 1

  • You will go on a placement with at least one employer and will attend college or a training centre for part of the week
  • You will have a training allowance of at least £50 per week
  • You will work towards the NVQ level 1
  • Training usually lasts at least 26 weeks
  • If you get the NVQ level 1 it could lead to a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship, a Modern Apprenticeship or a job

Foundation Modern Apprenticeships

  • Mainly open to those under 18
  • Training on the job
  • May involve day or block release to college or training centre
  • Work towards NVQ Level 2/3
  • Takes up to 2 years to complete
  • Training allowance or wage - at least £50 per week
  • Entry qualifications vary
  • Offered in many career areas such as accountancy, engineering, construction, sport or catering
  • Can lead to a Modern Apprenticeship or other employment

Modern Apprenticeships

  • Training on the job
  • May involve day or block release to a college or training centre
  • Work towards NVQ Level 3/4
  • Takes 3/4 years to complete
  • Paid a wage
  • Entry qualifications vary but can be competitive to enter - 4/5 GCSEs at Grade C or to include English and/or Maths or equivalent may be needed
  • Offered in many career areas such as accountancy, engineering, retailing, sport
  • Allows you to apply for a HND/HNC or Degree after you finish
