Learning outcomes:

When we plan a new programme for student learning or review an existing one, it is crucial to start with the intended learning outcomes. Once we are clear about the learning outcomes, then we can choose activities and events that help students to gain them. This process applies as much to planning and development for CEG and WRE as it does for other subjects. Often schools and colleges have wonderful work related and careers activities that really help students to learn but unless they are included in the programme in order to meet some specific learning outcomes, their true potential will be lost.

Intended Learning Outcomes are crucial in order to ...

Plan a programme with effective:

  • Activities
  • Teaching/learning
  • Resources

Check the level of student achievement
(We can't do this unless we know what we want them to learn!)

Evaluate the effectiveness of the programme
(so we need to know what to evaluate)
