Self-assessment and action planning

a) Initial interest

Comprehensive information regarding the award along with formal invitations to participate will be made available at regular intervals to all establishments across Wales. Additionally the CWQA will be promoted and further information provided at appropriate meetings, courses and conferences and by Careers Wales link staff within their own link establishments. Establishments can express an interest in participating in the award by sending an enquiry form to their local coordinator

b) Self assessment and action planning
A trained CW consultant will then be allocated to the establishment. The consultant will support the establishment to undertake a thorough and comprehensive self-assessment of their current provision for both careers and work related education. An action plan for achieving both modules will then be drawn up by the establishment again with the support of their CW consultant. The self-assessment and action planning process will involve staff responsible for CEG, WRE, senior managers and CW staff.

c) The self assessment process
It is vital that the establishment undertakes an effective self - assessment in relation to both award modules. A thorough and comprehensive audit against the ACCAC learning outcomes for CEG and the ACCAC based learning outcomes for WRE must be carried out alongside the audit of the criteria. This will enable coordinators and managers to identify current practice and provision against the award criteria. As a result of this process an action plan will drawn up clearly indicating areas for development along with plans for carrying out any necessary action in order to meet the criteria fully. This will enable the establishments senior managers to
  • make an informed decision about which module the establishment will take forward to assessment
  • enable resources, both establishment and Careers Company, to be planned effectively to support achievement of the award
d) The action planning process
Careers Wales is committed to support establishments to improve the standards of CEG and WRE. Depending on the information available following the self-assessment each establishment will wish to make progress by improving any areas not fully developed to meet the criteria. A comprehensive and detailed action plan will support the institution to make a clear management decision in relation to their next step. The self-assessment and action-planning grid allows all necessary information to be recorded against the criteria. Although establishments have the option to work towards assessment in either of the modules following self-assessment they will be required to produce a self-assessment and action plan against both sets of criteria in the initial stages. It is the intention that, whichever of the modules is selected for formal assessment, the subsequent module is kept live by regular review and updating of the action plan for that area. The subsequent module action plan will be reviewed at six monthly intervals.
