Evidence

  • Minutes and agendas from senior management meetings
  • Attendance lists showing senior managers attending WRE meetings/conferences
  • Discussion with senior managers and verification discussions with teaching staff
  • Notes/photographs/videos showing senior management presence at key events
  • Discussion with boards of directors/governors
  • Discussion with partners

CEG notes
This helps to promote CEG as a whole-establishment concern and not just the responsibility of the careers co-ordinator

WRE notes
This is crucial in order to promote WRE as a whole-establishment concern and not just the responsibility of the WRE co-ordinators

   Good practice guide
  • Related to 2.1, senior managers need to be actively involved and seen to be so! Sometimes SMTs say they promote WRE/CEG but in reality pay lip service and leave co-ordinators to do everything.
  • Managers can be responsible for the overall management of WRE and CEG by:
    • Initiating planning and review meetings not just responding to requests for these
    • Talking to staff about WRE/CEG matters
    • Planning the evaluation of WRE/CEG with the co-ordinators
    • Taking the lead on the assessment plan (1.16)
    • Taking part in careers and work related events
    • Keeping directors/senior management boards/governors/senior management teams up to date
    • Integrating intentions relating to CEG/WRE into corporate plans
    • Having a link governor for CEG/WRE
  • Senior managers should use their networks and contacts to promote partnerships with businesses and community organisations that will contribute to the CEG and WRE programmes. To do this effectively they will need a clear understanding of the content and learning outcomes of the programmes.
