In 1999 the National Assembly for Wales passed a resolution 'that a successful future for the Welsh economy depends on a strong culture of entrepreneurship'. The Entrepreneurship Action Plan for Wales (EAP) strategy document, 'The Sky is the Limit' was published in March 2000. This document sets out a framework for promoting, encouraging and developing entrepreneurship throughout Wales. The EAP implementation plan 'Making it Happen' was published in September 2000 and gives details of 6 Key Actions. One of these is to give enterprise education support to schools and colleges. It is believed that we need to encourage young people to view being entrepreneurial as a normal part of our culture.
- Project Dynamo run by Careers Wales provides role model of young people who are successful in setting up their own businesses. The project gives materials and advice on how to best use the role models within active sessions. The student booklet 'Who's the boss?' gives attractive and highly readable case studies of young entrepreneurs from across Wales
- Careers Wales have produced 'Encouraging Enterprise: A support manual for educational institutions'
For the CWQA Schools and colleges need to show that they have whole establishment strategies for promoting entrepreneurship which are led by senior management. These need to be clearly documented, perhaps as a summary list or short plan, and linked to the learning outcomes for CEG and WRE. |
