1. Helping people of all ages in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan make informed choices about careers, education and training courses.

  • Careers Wales Cardiff and the Vale helps people of all ages make decisions about careers and learning opportunities - whether you're in school, college, working, studying or looking for a job or training.
  • That means anyone living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan can contact us and get free, impartial information, advice and guidance from experienced careers advisers with access to the very latest information.
  • Careers Wales Cardiff and Vale provides a free recruitment service for employers who want to recruit young people so if you've just left school or college we can tell you about jobs and training vacancies and help you apply for them. If you've recently left school or college and aren't sure what you want to do, or need more support to get a job, training or education course then you might be interested in Youth Gateway, run by Careers Wales to help young people find what's right for them.
  • We have Careers Centres in Cardiff and Barry and also work in schools, colleges and community centres across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
  • Our Centre Libraries have free information on careers, qualifications, courses, voluntary work, starting your own business, working abroad and financial help. We can help with completing CV's, application forms and interview techniques. You can access the Internet at our Centres for free information on jobs and careers.

Careers Wales Cardiff and Vale provides a free, confidential service that can save you time, money and effort and help build your business.

To help you find the best employees for your business we:

  • offer a free recruitment service for school and college leavers
  • advertise vacancies at Careers Centres, schools, colleges and outreach centres
  • screen all suitable candidates
  • supply and collect application forms
  • offer interview facilities at Careers Centres
  • provide advice on when to recruit to get the best applicants
  • advise on suitable training for employees and methods of funding.

  • Careers Wales Cardiff and Vale Workforce Development Team offers information, advice and guidance to employers and their employees on training and learning opportunities. The initiative aims to increase the skill levels of employed adults and improve access to learning, especially those with little or no qualifications and/or low paid.
  • Advisers are also trained to help with redundancy counselling.

3. Supporting schools and colleges with their curriculum and professional development needs.

Whether you work in local primary schools, secondary or special schools, Further or Higher Education and whatever your subject area, Careers Wales Cardiff and Vale can help you with curriculum and professional development needs.

We:

  • provide support and training for careers co-ordinators and other teachers and lecturers involved in careers education programmes
  • co-ordinate placements for teachers and lecturers in business and industry
  • support schools and colleges working towards the Careers Wales Quality Award in Careers Education and Guidance
  • offer financial support to develop and maintain school and college careers libraries
  • support work experience by providing schools and colleges with an up to date on line database of employers prepared to offer placement to students. The work experience database can be accessed via www.work-experience.co.uk/cardiff
  • co-ordinate initiatives between employers, schools and colleges to promote entrepreneurship, enterprise and business awareness such as the Welsh Development Agency's Dynamo Project, industry and enterprise days
  • co-ordinate initiatives between employers, schools and colleges to promote student motivation and improve understanding of the skills and attitudes required for working life
  • co-ordinate initiatives between employers, schools and colleges to enrich the design and delivery of the curriculum especially science and technology and vocational subjects such as hospitality and catering, engineering and manufacturing, construction and the built environment, leisure and tourism, media.
