An update from the North East

Careers Wales recently teamed up with ten local employers to give presentations to school pupils on how maths is used in the workplace.

Maths in the Workplace
Year 8 pupils in Elfed High School were shown the relevance of maths in a working environment and found out how individuals earn a living within their field of work. The young people were also able to understand more about employability skills and why they are so important in the world of work.

Lesley Lloyd from Careers Wales said, “It’s important that young people have an opportunity like this to gain first hand an appreciation of why maths is so important in the workplace”. She added, “A key element of the event was for the young people to experience and understand the role and responsibilities of different professions. This shows the relevance to the maths taught in school.”

Employers supporting this event ranged from the construction industry to legal services and were all thanked by Careers Wales for their ongoing support with promoting the world of work to school pupils.
