Careers Wales’ business partnerships flourish in Ebbw Vale special school
A local housing association has been able to provide interview workshops to Pen Y Cwm Special School using the new Careers Wales Education Business Exchange (EBE) platform.
The event, held at Pen Y Cwm Special School in Ebbw Vale, was a collaboration between Careers Wales and Tai Calon Housing Association through the recently launched EBE service.
It involved eight year 13 pupils who took part in an interactive interview workshop, which included preparing application letters used for the basis of the interview. Followed by a mock interview, conducted by the staff at Tai Calon.
The mock interview day is the first regional event to happen since the launch of the Education Business Exchange (EBE) designed to enable employers to work directly with schools to provide bespoke experiences for pupils.
Staff at Pen Y Cwm were able to use the EBE skills portal to connect with local employer Tai Calon. It is anticipated that, once rolled out in its entirety, more than 13,000 employers will be registered for the EBE, resulting in thousands of new, bespoke opportunities for pupils.
Graham Bowd Chief Executive at Careers Wales, said: “This EBE event is the first of its kind and has given students the opportunity to develop essential skills and improve their employability, preparing them to leave full time education."
“Our aim is to facilitate opportunities for engagement with employers, so pupils are able to step into the world of work with valuable experience behind them."
“The EBE is an important resource designed as a tool to promote interaction with employers early on."
