Enriching the Curriculum – Science, Engineering, Technology
Employability, key skills, competitiveness, lifelong learning are words with which we have become increasingly familiar. Schools are working hard to prepare their pupils for the world of work, but they can’t do it alone. Using business and industry as a context for learning, provides a tremendous opportunity to make subjects come alive for pupils. More..

Natasha Lough
I’ve been interested in natural history from an early age. Working outside has always appealed to me whether in a marine or a terrestrial environment. I currently work for the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), based in Bangor, North Wales. My role is an amalgamation of jobs which includes working as a Marine Habitats Biologist and an Intertidal Survey Officer. This entails running external monitoring contracts to look at the marine features of the European Special Areas of Conservation in Wales. One aspect of the work is arranging contractors to do field work. An example is placing a video camera underwater and dragging it along the sea bed and recording the species and habitats we come across. Other duties include providing advice on activities that occur within a Special Site of Scientific Interest and to asses how damaging these activities may be to the conservation interest of the sites. I also work on the phase 1 intertidal mapping project which maps all the biological communities found along the Welsh coastline.
